Our local guide, who was originally from Sacramento, California but had lived in Regensburg for 20 years, took us into the courtyard of the Golden Tower and I got a couple of pictures of it. I am really pleased to find an account by someone who actually lived there. I enjoyed reading not only about your stay in the Tower but also your adventures on the way to obtaining your Ph.D. By the way, I also read your Illinois Alumni profile and I applaud your advocacy and activism. I myself am neither L, G, B, T or Q, but I have close friends in the Orange County, California, LGBTQ community and am no stranger to their travails. Congratulations on becoming the first UI student to win a Fulbright to France!
