I greatly enjoyed Pauline Park's CD of piano music, Barricades Mysterieuses, the title from the first piece, by Couperin. This is a beautiful album, all of the works familiar, so that one can appreciate it without being a pianist or a musician. The pieces are similar in mood: pensive and romantic. They move the listener without being maudlin or bathetic. I love the way the album progresses chronologically, through Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, into popular opera, and ends with some haunting folk tunes. I wanted to sing along at the end, and sang "Blow the Wind Southerly," then looked up the words to "The Water Is Wide." Brava!
