NYAGRA letter to Gov. Cuomo re GENDA (3.29.13)

The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York
State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224

29 March 2013

Dear Gov. Cuomo,

I am writing you on behalf of the board of directors and members of the New York Association for Gender Rights Advocacy (NYAGRA) to urge you to come out publicly in support of the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (S.195/A.4226). GENDA would prohibit discrimination based on gender identity or expression, which is pervasive in many parts of this state. There are seven cities and three counties – constituting almost 60% of the state’s population – that have already adopted local ordinances doing just the same thing; it is now time for the state legislature to act to protect transgendered and gender-variant New Yorkers from discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, education and credit. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this important legislation.

Sincerely,
