More than 150 people turned out Monday evening, June 6, for a first of its kind transgender health fair at the LGBT Community Center on West 13th Street. The event was initiated by the Transgender Health Initiative of New York, a joint project of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF), the New York Association for Gender Rights Advocacy (NYAGRA), and the Center’s Gender Identity Project. St. Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan and the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center were also sponsors of the event.

Organizers included (left to right): Pauline Park, NYAGRA chair; Yvonne Wojcicki, a St. Vincent’s safety officer; Dr. Barbara Johnston, assistant director of St. Vincent’s HIV Center; Michael Silverman, TLDEF’s executive director; and also from St. Vincent’s, Dr. Dennis Greenbaum, chairman of the Department of Medicine; Dr. Wilton Rodriguez, a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow; Rory Sweeny McGovern, director of nursing staff education; Dr. Scot McAfee, director of psychiatry residency training; Buddy Seaton, a social worker in the HIV Center; and Dr. Carol Barsky, chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
